Evaluate an AI agent gateway for safer tool access
Model Context Protocol (MCP) connects AI applications to tools and data. A security review needs to consider both the connection to a server and the individual actions an agent can request through it.
Authentication is the first step
Knowing which client connected does not answer whether it should execute a particular tool. A useful access policy also considers the tenant, the requested action, and the authority delegated to the agent.
An AI agent gateway can provide a place to manage access between agents and their tools. For teams evaluating MCP gateway security, the useful questions are which actions are permitted, who is responsible, and how activity can be reviewed. Platform Keystone offers a conversation and a scoped assisted evaluation around those needs.
Questions to bring to an MCP security evaluation
- Which MCP servers and tools may each team discover and call?
- Can a read-only workflow accidentally reach a tool that changes data?
- What happens when a server adds a tool or changes an existing tool definition?
- Which credentials are used downstream, and how is that access revoked?
- Can an operator trace a tool call to its identity, tenant, and authorization decision?
Test a small set of tools first
For an assisted trial, choose a server and a limited set of actions in a suitable test environment. Agree expected behavior for permitted calls, rejected calls, changed tool definitions, and disconnected services. Confirm which of these checks the trial can support before connecting systems.
A gateway is one part of the security boundary
A gateway alone does not establish that every connected tool is safe. Agree the responsibilities of tool owners, the information agents may access, and how your team handles unexpected activity. These are evaluation criteria; supported controls are confirmed when the trial is scoped.
Platform Keystone is in development. Assisted trials are scoped individually; integrations, available capabilities, duration, and any third-party costs are confirmed before setup.
